Obama vs. Technology

Last weekend, President Obama gave a commencement speech in which he complained about modern technology. In an effort to clarify what the President MEANT, I've taken the time to "translate" his speech to you can know, in no uncertain terms, what his point was. Text in black is what was said, text in red is my translation:

So education is what has always allowed us to meet the challenges of a changing world.
The educational system in the United States is the greatest liberal stronghold, and helps us by brainwashing students before they have a chance to know better.

Information becomes a distraction from my socialist agenda, a diversion from my big government plans, a form of entertainment by watching Biden's gaffes, rather than a tool of brain washing, rather than the means of liberalizing the entire country.

So all of this is not only putting pressure on you; it's putting new pressure on our country and on our democracy.
So all of this is not only confusing you because you are hearing different viewpoints than what you've heard in school; it's putting new pressure on our country and on our democracy - it's hard to control the media, education system, unions AND the American people at the same time!
Class of 2010, this is a period of breathtaking change, like few others in our history. We can't stop these changes, but we can channel them, we can shape them, we can adapt to them.

An Insightful List of Clarifications From The Mind of a Right-Wing Wacko

• The new immigration law in Arizona is not new in requiring people to have "papers" - 42 states require that one carries some form of identification at all times - I.D. card, drivers license, etc. So there is nothing new about wanting people to have their "papers"-- or proof that they are who they say they are.
• People that don't live or have never lived in a border state should keep any negative opinions about the Arizona law to themselves. They don't know what illegal immigration has done to these places. They may think they know, but they have no clue. If you would like to know, e-mail me.
• I am appalled at Mayor Bloomberg -- that he would suggest that the would-be Times Square bomber was someone with a “political agenda”… possibly “against the health care bill.” Are you kidding me?! That should show everyone who the leftists actually view as the enemy -- conservatives (although the majority of Americans were against Obamacare) -- not muslim terrorists.
• I find it hilarious that the administration is conveying the idea that they somehow stopped the Times Square bomber, and saved countless lives. They didn't stop anything. The bomb didn't go off. The bomber was stupid when it came to bomb-making. So had it not been for the faulty bomb, there would have been lives lost. 
• Maybe it's just me, but I have seen much more news coverage on the oil spill in the Gulf - instead of the flooding in Tennessee. Or for that matter, no one is discussing the 11 people who lost their lives on that oil rig. But why is it that when natural disasters happen in minority areas, the media covers it 24/7, but when it's in the heartland of the country, it doesn't get the same airtime. Do white people need less help in a disaster than others do? Or does it just not accomplish the political goals the media is interested in conveying?

Obama to deliver Eulogy...

This Sunday, President Obama will be delivering the Eulogy at the memorial service for the 29 miners who died in an explosion in West Virginia. Not sure what they were thinking when they asked the world's most arrogant narcissist to express his "deepest condolences" and to honor those who died. Maybe Obama will have the eulogy written for him, and stick to his beloved teleprompter. But, if he decides to express his own sentiments, we can be sure it will quickly become a campaign speech. I am truly interested to hear if Obama can actually feign sympathy for this speech. I guess we'll see soon enough.

Tax Day: A History Lesson

April 15th. A day that most Americans would like to skip. Time to pay the government once again...and the government doesn't care whether you can afford it or not. Tax day wasn't always on April 15th in the United States. It used to be on March 15th. But so many Americans filed their taxes at the last minute and overwhelmed the IRS, that the decision was made to move it back one month and encourage Americans to file early. Yeah...didn't work. As soon as it was moved to April 15th, everyone relaxed for another month and just filed at the last minute again. 

The federal income tax first came into existence as an attempt to help fund the Civil war. The Union was able to raise 21% of war revenue from this tax. It would mark the first time personal income was taxed in this country, and it was, ironically, a fairly new idea borrowed from the British. It was meant to be a temporary/emergency tax, and it was repealed 10 years later when the government moved to a flat tax - which only lasted a year before it was ruled unconstitutional. 

In 1913, the 16th amendment to the constitution was ratified. It gave the government the permanent right to tax the income of citizens and businesses. It was passed under the guise of free-trade. The idea being that having income tax revenue would allow the government to reduce duties and tariffs, and encourage free trade. 1913 was also the year that the first form 1040 was created:

During World War II, the government started withholding taxes automatically out of paychecks, which increased revenue significantly. In 1913, the federal tax code (tax rules) was 400 pages long. In 1945, it had increased to 8200 pages. Today, the tax code exceeds 60,000 pages, and here is the current 1040 form:

The U.S. Government received $2.5+ trillion dollars in taxes for 2008. In regards to the portion from the individual income tax, the top 5% of earners pay 60% of the total. 

So there you have it - the history of tax day, in a nutshell. Some say to enjoy this day, because starting soon, the tax rate will rise, new taxes will be added, and we will look back on this year as the last year we paid low taxes. And to just say what you're all thinking -- if this is low, I'd hate to see high. But we can thank Obama, his administration, congress and all the idiots that support these criminals for the future tax hikes. There is no way to pay for Obamacare without hiking taxes and adding new ones such as the VAT. The only way to fund the deficit spending of the current regime is on the backs of the American people - and they won't flinch at making that decision. On this tax day, I will leave you with a poignant quote from Thomas Jefferson. I wonder if he knew how prophetic and applicable his words were as he penned them.

"We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our selection between economy and liberty or profusion and servitude. Just remember, as you write your check today, sign your return, or smile over a refund...the amount that we are taxed is not something completely out of our control. Taxes are certain - definitely; but we can reign in the government, limit their reach, put fiscal conservatives in power, and leave more money in the pockets of American citizens. More money in our pockets equals a stronger economy. We need to get involved this year, and change government this November...and beyond. To paraphrase Reagan -- we must starve the beast (government), so it has no choice but to become smaller. If we feed the beast, it will only grow larger and require more and more from us. We can change things in this country - but we have to act. Grumbling as you write your check doesn't change anything.

What They Aren't Getting

I know the majority of people do not want Obamacare. I know that it's a bad idea for our country, and our individual health. But I think I need to clarify a point that I've heard people making regarding the "death panels". Even opponents of Obamacare say that the issue of death panels is really a non-issue, because they already exist in some form now. That assertion is correct - in our current system, health insurance companies look at situations and decide whether to cover treatments or not - so in certain instances, they could be making a life or death decision for someone. BUT, what no one seems to point out is that in the current system, if one's insurance company convenes a "death panel", they are only deciding whether to approve or deny payment for a procedure/treatment. They are not denying the patient access to the treatment altogether. They don't have the power to do that. If my insurance company said they wouldn't pay for something that I think I needed, I have the freedom in the current system to use my own money and go get the treatment on my own. Yes, I will have to pay for it, but if it really is important to me, then that's a choice I'll be willing to make.

Now fast forward to Obamacare death panels. Government run health care is just that - health care managed and run by the government - not just the payment side, but care in general. Under Obamacare, most private health care would be put out of business. In the fully-implemented plan, private health care practices would be illegal. So if you need a particular treatment, and a death panel is convened and they decide against it, you have no other recourse. To use your own money and seek treatment on your own would be illegal. The Obamacare death panels are not deciding whether or not to pay for something, but rather whether you will receive the treatment at all.

That should concern everyone. There may already be "death panels", but they do not do the same thing as they would under Obamacare at all. So please point that out to anyone who brings this up.

Don't Let Up!

The phone lines on Capitol hill have been "melting" according to several news sources. People are calling in and letting Congress know what they think of these corrupt ploys to pass health care reform. Looks like the "vote" will be this Sunday. Keep calling, keep e-mailing.

But I have to tell you to not let up - and I don't just mean about health care. Now, Obama is turning his attention to immigration reform. We're seeing shades of McCain and Kennedy's failed attempt to pass amnesty a few years ago. I can assure you, Obama has no intention of letting this immigration reform fail this time. It's the same crap: illegal aliens can be "put on the path to citizenship" by paying a fine, doing some community service, and learning some English. Then they are in.

This is so ridiculous and counter-productive in our current economy (and I'm against it regardless of the economy)! Last time immigration reform was being debated, the economy was still going strong; and the pro-amnesty crowd's biggest argument was that "illegals do the jobs that Americans won't do".

Fast forward to our current economy, where, as Reid put it last week, "ONLY 36,000 people lost their job today". He was touting that number as a good thing - but we all know that a lot of people (American citizens) are out of work, and need a job. Obama, himself, knows that jobs are what Americans are worried about - that's why he urged Congress to pass the "jobs bill" as soon as possible to help create more jobs for the unemployed.

Look at what our President of HOPE and CHANGE is doing. On one hand, he is trying to create jobs for unemployed Americans to put a dent in the unemployment numbers. On the other hand, he is pushing for immigration reform that would legalize tens of millions of illegal aliens, and suddenly create more competition for our currently unemployed citizens. So those who see no need to respect the laws of our country - who sneak over the border, take jobs getting paid under the table, steal social security numbers, show up at emergency rooms and expect tax payers to cover their treatment, drive without licenses or insurance - those people will be granted citizenship and the right to now TAKE THE JOBS THAT AMERICANS NEED.

How does that make any sense? This immigration reform has to be stopped before it has a chance to gain any momentum. Tough thing is, this is not a simple blue vs. red issue. Many Republicans have the wrong view on this issue - one of them being the co-writer of the bill, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina! So don't let up yet! Keep fighting this health care bill, but don't let them sneak in this immigration reform - let Congress know that none of this is gonna fly!

Calling All Americans!

OK, I pretty much always have an opinion about politics. No surprise there. But my opinions usually only go as far as my husband, family or close friends, and this blog.

But today, I'm taking my political opinion one step further.

I am calling Congress, and giving them my opinion about them and their health care bill that they are jamming down our throats.

I challenge you to do the same.

Maybe you don't normally care too much about politics. Maybe you usually rely on others to object so that you don't have to. Today, take it upon yourself to tell Congress what you think.

This health care bill is not just a bad idea because it funds abortions. It is wrong on many, many other levels. This bill MANDATES that each of you buy health insurance (regardless of whether you want it or not). This bill will massively raise your taxes, and your health insurance premiums. This bill will ultimately give the government control over your health care - they will make the decisions on who is worth treating, and who is not. And since private health insurance companies will no longer exist, you will not have other options if the government denies your treatment.

I've heard many people mention that it's OK if this bill passes now, because it will seal the fate of all the Congressmen who voted for it, and they will lose their seats in the mid-term elections. Then the bill will just be repealed by the new Congress. I hope that is true. BUT, if this bill passes now, the tax increase will be immediate. So even if it is ultimately repealed, you will still have a tax hike to deal with in the meantime.

Anyway, PLEASE call the Capitol before Thursday (3/18).

History does not remember those who merely thought about how wrong something was. It is only those who take action and make their opinion known who are acknowledged.

By the way, if you are lucky enough to get a hold of a congressman, and they tell you that they are "undecided", don't let them off the hook - that is simply a ploy to avoid your rage. They've had a year to decide, and being undecided on such a crappy bill is as bad as voting for it. Don't let them play that game with you. Good luck! Pelosi's Suicide Voters

Last week, Nancy Pelosi made it clear that the house needs to pass the Senate's healthcare bill regardless of the consequences come November. She basically said that they need to pass the bill because it's what Americans need - regardless of the fact that the majority does not WANT it.

This brings up an interesting analogy.

There is another group of people that take harmful actions because of a cause. They do not consider the harm to themselves or others - the cause is king. These are usually educated, intelligent people. Almost always, they inflict this damage to accomplish a political goal.

What group is it? Suicide bombers.

I submit that there is very little difference between the mentality of suicide bombers, and Nancy Pelosi's congressional democrats. She is telling them to choose the cause (government take-over of health care) over their voters and their jobs. She tells them to ignore the consequences of their vote, because the cause is king. It's debatable, but these house democrats are likely well-educated and slightly intelligent. And going down in flames to pass the Senate health care bill is inflicting damage on Americans - all for a political agenda.

While researching the profile of suicide bombers, I came across this article. The author ends the article with this:

I am convinced that terrorists are very shrewd politicians with very clear agendas,” said Pedahzur. “The question we must then consider is how do we minimize their followers and support?”

Make no mistake - this administration is full of very shrewd politicians, and Pelosi is carrying out a very clear agenda. The question is whether the house democrats will choose to be suicide voters, or hold themselves accountable to the American voters that put them in their position.

Of course, we can't ignore the big picture question. What do we do to minimize the support of the democratic party? They may be digging their own graves with this health care take-over, but the most effective thing we can do right now is look for a CONSERVATIVE leader that can effectively take on Obama in 2012. It's great that the democrats are floundering while in power, but it's pointless if we don't have someone to straighten things out when the American people kick Obama and his cronies out of office.


For now, we'll simply watch and see if the suicide voters strike.

Obesity in the Desert

Side note: what do you call the First Lady? Is she "First Lady Michelle"? "Madame First Lady"? "Michelle, ma'belle"? "Anti-obesity Czar"?

You have opened up a whole new world to me. Food Deserts. I didn't even know they existed until you explained it to me! Actually, when I heard the term, I pictured my home town - it's literally a desert, and we had food...thus, it's a food desert. Then I thought maybe the term referred to the depressing situation where your town only has a few low-end, low-quality restaurants to choose from. Wrong again! You enlightened me that food deserts are areas in this country that do not have a grocery store close by. And based on your comments, it sounds like you think that having to take a cab, a bus, or a train to the store is just too far. Does that mean that the only people that don't live in food deserts are the ones who are within walking distance of a store? Wow! We are a solid 15-minute drive from the nearest grocery store...so we must be in the Sahara of Food Deserts!

Obviously, I find this "food desert" idea to be humorous and umm...WRONG. Mainly because of your proposed solution to the food desert issue. Your solution is typically liberal - have the government pay out millions of tax payer dollars to provide incentives for companies to build in the food deserts. What's another $400 million when we're so buried in debt already?! I'm sure we can look forward to a food desert tax at the grocery store soon. Here are my problems with your program, Michelle:

1. Having the federal government interfere with the free market by spending millions to bring in stores to "underserved areas" is simply another example of the government interfering with the private sector. Like it or not, grocery stores are built in places where it is beneficial to the company's bottom line. If there is an untapped area that has profit potential to a store, they will build there. If the area is not populated enough, or has a systemic crime problem, the economic incentive doesn't exist, and the company will look for another location.
2. Talking about "food deserts" really conveys the idea that people have had NO role in choosing where they live. It suggests that they were placed there - regardless of their preferences. If the distance to the nearest grocery store is really interfering with your life, you should move to an area that serves your needs better. Everyone has that option.
3. Mrs. First Lady, if you are interested in combating childhood obesity, then you shouldn't be trying to eliminate food deserts - you should be trying to create more of them! Common sense would suggest that the more limited ones access is to food, the smaller their waistline. Having a grocery store within walking distance of most kids would result in many of them using their allowance to buy the dreaded sodas and candy bars that they can't get at school any more. Save our children! Create food deserts!

All humor aside, this is yet another example from this administration of the underlying issue in this country: lack of personal responsibility. Once again, no one should have to face the consequences of their decisions. My husband and I moved to a different neighborhood last year. We did our research on the area, and we knew that we would be about 15 minutes from town. We still chose to move to the neighborhood, because we were willing to trade a little convenience for the peace and quiet of being in a more rural setting. When making our decision, we never thought that it should be the government's responsibility to make sure we had a grocery store nearby. We made sure that we would be satisfied with our new location "as is". The free market will take care of providing services where they are needed. Our freedom is that we can choose where we live - be it a food desert, or a food oasis. It's our choice, and not the government's business.


Every time we abdicate individual responsibilities to the government, it grows stronger and, in turn, more able to seize those freedoms that we treasure.

Jennifer Thompson's Comprehensive Healthcare Reform

• Step #1: Take the 2400 page Obama bill, and try to determine how many trees have died in vain to display this idiocy. 
• Step #2: Set the current bill, all 2400 pages, down next to Bill Clinton's biography "My Life" and see which is longer...and which contains more BS. It'll be close. 
• Step #3: Privatize health care completely. This means there is no health insurance, aside from catastrophic insurance.
• Step #4: Educate the public about tax-free HSAs (Health Savings Accounts).
• Step #5: It will become each American's responsibility to pay for and seek out their own medical treatment. 
• Step #6: Because people are now paying for treatment out-of-pocket, and they can choose any doctor they want to, the free market will take over and lower the cost of routine care. It will also make doctors competitive, which will help the quality doctors succeed, and the substandard doctors go out of business. 
• This will also greatly reduce the abuse of the health care system - people will be more interested in taking care of themselves so that they don't have to pay for medical treatment, and they will not go to the doctor for every little sniffle, thus the 8 hour E.R. wait times will be reduced.

I could go on and on, but that's my idea - very broadly outlined. Obviously, I don't believe that health care is a right in this country. It's an issue best left to the individual - not the government. If everyone has to pay their own bills and they get to choose their own doctor, then I think it's going to fix a lot of problems. To Begin...

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jennifer Thompson. I was born and raised in southern California, but now live in North Carolina (more on that later). I have been married for 8 years to a man that I've had a crush on since 9th grade. We are in the midst of losing our minds raising two young children - Zachary who is 3, and Rebekah who is 1 (FYI - we've chosen to raise them in their respective stereotypical gender roles). I stay at home full-time to take care of the kids, and my husband works full time to ensure our survival!

I am by no means a political pro, and I have never claimed to be...although I do enjoy knowing that I'm right most of the time! Hehehe. I'd like to say I've never had a liberal thought in my life, but alas, I was convinced that a "free store" would solve everyone's problems...when I was five years old. Thankfully, I saw the light, and have been on the conservative straight and narrow ever since. Call me a liberal, and I will be forced to use my martial arts skills on you. Don't call me a Republican either - the Republican party, to me, is like that annoying relative that you always have to invite to family gatherings - you put up with them because they're family, but you don't have much in common. I am a conservative. I want limited government, personal responsibility, low taxes, and a balanced budget. No, I don't think that is too much to ask.

I am a Christian. This country was founded on Judeo-Christian principles, and the government needs to respect that. I am pro-life. I will teach my children about the literal 7 day creation of the universe. I did not vote for President Obama, and I am appalled at the Socialist road he is forcing this country down. I've been told that as a Christian, I should pray for Obama. To be honest, I do pray for him - I pray that his presidency will fail miserably, that his policies will not stand, that he won't get elected to a second term, and I do pray that he will have a change of heart. But I'm not holding my breath on that last one.

Anyway, I hope that gives you a better idea of who I am and where I'm coming from. This blog is just my view of current events and politics.
